Simi Winery, established in 1876 by Italian brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi, is one of California's oldest continuously operating wineries. After relocating to Healdsburg in 1881, they built a stone cellar in 1890 that remains in use today. Giuseppe's daughter, Isabelle Simi, took over the winery in 1904 at the age of 18 and successfully navigated it through Prohibition by selling sacramental wine and preserving a significant stockpile, allowing Simi to resume sales immediately after repeal. The winery has a legacy of strong female leadership, with notable figures like MaryAnn Graf, the first woman in the U.S. to earn a degree in enology, and Zelma Long, who modernized operations and became president and CEO.
