Dominus Estate, located in Yountville, California, was established in 1983 by renowned Bordeaux winemaker Christian Moueix. The estate encompasses the historic Napanook Vineyard, a site with viticultural roots dating back to 1836 when George C. Yount planted the region's first vines. Moueix, captivated by the vineyard's potential, became its sole owner in 1995, naming it "Dominus," Latin for "lord of the estate," to signify his dedication to the land. The winery itself, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and completed in 1997, features an innovative gabion structure that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape while providing natural climate control.
