Moët Impérial is the house’s signature Champagne, first created in 1869, and it is built to taste the same year after year. The blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay gives it a familiar balance of fruit, freshness, and a gentle bakery note. Aromas lean toward green apple and lemon zest, with a brioche hint that shows up as it opens in the glass. On the palate, pear and apple lead, then citrus brightens everything up, with a subtle toast note that feels more like fresh baked bread than oak. About the grape

Moët Impérial is built from the three Champagne grapes, with house guidelines typically around 35% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay, and reserve wines are used to maintain consistency and maturity. Pinot Noir supplies backbone and red fruit structure, often coming from Montagne de Reims and the Aube where old clones and vertical training give power and concentration. Pinot Meunier is prized by the house for its early ripening and adaptability to clay and marl soils in the Vallée de la Marne, providing roundness and approachability in the blend. Chardonnay contributions usually come from the Cote des Blancs where chalky soils and careful pruning deliver freshness and length, which the cellar blends to add elegance and aging potential.

Moët & Chandon, founded in 1743 by Claude Moët in Épernay, France, quickly became a favorite among European nobility, including figures like King Louis XV and Napoleon Bonaparte. The house is renowned for its extensive 28-kilometer network of underground cellars, the largest in the Champagne region, providing ideal conditions for aging their champagnes. In 1833, the company was renamed Moët & Chandon when Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles joined as a partner.
